- Aosta Valley is a region in the North East of Italy with around 125,000 inhabitants, more than one third of whom live in the capital, Aosta. With an area of 3,263 km² it is the smallest, least populous Italian region. |

- The region is completely covered by the Alps, including the highest mountain in Europe, Mont Blanc. |
- Aosta Valley is an important centre for winter sports especially skiing and tourism is the important economic activity of the region and the Gran Paradiso National Park attracts many tourists. |
- The region gets its name from the valley in which the city of Aosta is situated, which, in turn, was named after the Roman Emperor Augustus who founded the city.

- Typical food in the region includes fondue, fontina cheeses and polenta. |
- Aosta Valley is famous for its well-preserved medieval castles including Castello Savoia and Castello di Fénis.
