- Sardinian cuisine is based on simple ingredients from a pastoral and farming tradition combined with a seafaring tradition along the coast. Typical food from Sardinia is Malloreddus, Culingiones and Fregula.

- Sardinia has more than 8,000 nuraghe, stone structures dating back before 1000 BC.

- During the Carnival period the Sartiglia takes place in the city of Oristano. It is one of the few horse jousting events which still takes place in Europe.

- The Molentargius pool in the city of Cagliari is a nature reserve where, among other birds, pink flamingoes nest.

- The Sant'Efisio festival is the most important festival in Sardinia. It takes place in Cagliari on May 1st every year. Participants from villages all over the island dress in traditional costumes and take part in a parade through the city.
