TRENTINO ALTO ADIGE

- Trentino-Alto Adige is a region in north-east Italy (it is in fact the most northern region) with a population of about 1 million. Its capital is Trento.

- It is completely mountainous, covered by the Dolomites and the Southern Alps.

- The region was part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire from 1815 until 1919.

- The Brenner Pass is the lowest (1370 metres) and easiest pass through the Alps and has therefore been much coveted by various powers through the ages.

- A typical dish is Canederli, a recipe which reflects the German and Austrian influence in the area.

- Trentino-Alto Adige is well-known for its winter sports like ice skating, ice hockey and particularily skiing.
