- Tuscany is a region in Central Italy. It has a population of around 3.6 million inhabitants. Its capital is Florence. |

- The historical centres of Florence, Siena, Pienza, San Gimignano, the square of the Cathedral of Pisa and Val d'Orcia are all UNESCO World Heritage sites. |

- Tuscany is the birthplace of the Renaissance movement and it has a vast artistic heritage including the Uffizi, in Florence, one of the most famous art museums in the world. |

- Dante Alghieri, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Botticelli were all born in Tuscany. |

- The Palio takes place in Siena twice a year when a horse rider from 10 of the 17 neighbourhoods of the city takes part in a race around the Piazza del Campo. |

- Many famous wines, notably Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino, are produced in the Tuscan hills. |
